Our Curriculum

S.E.E.D.S. Learning Center uses the Creative Curriculum for Preschool.  The Creative Curriculum is based on five fundamental principles:

·         Positive interactions and relationships with adults provide a critical foundation for successful learning.

·         Social-emotional competence is a significant factor in school success.

·         Constructive, purposeful play supports essential learning.

·         The physical environment affects the type and quality of learning interactions

·         Teacher-family partnerships promote development and learning.

Outdoor Play

Young children need physical activity to develop healthy bodies as well as motor and social skills. Outdoor play areas encourage children to develop gross and fine motor skills in ways that may be difficult to duplicate indoors. Children sleep, learn, and exhibit greater self-regulation when physical activity is part of their daily routines. When taken outdoors, even during cold weather for short periods of time, children have less incidences of respiratory illness and have an increased production of vitamin D.

Guidance Policy

Every adult who cares for children has a responsibility to guide, and direct children toward appropriate behaviors.  These adult actions often are called child guidance and discipline.  Positive guidance and discipline are crucial because they promote children’s self-control, teach children responsibility and help children make thoughtful choices. We maintain a positive discipline policy that uses positive reinforcement and redirection.  This encourages self-control, self-direction, self-esteem, and cooperation in the children.  The more effective caregivers are at encouraging appropriate child behavior, the less time and effort adults will spend correcting children’s misbehavior.

Daily Activities Schedule

All of the activities of our daily routine align directly with the Creative Curriculum.  Teachers and caregivers are active participants during play to guide children and help facilitate learning.  The following activity schedule lets you know what your child will be doing during each part of the day.  If you have any questions about the activities in the classroom you can speak to your child’s teacher or another S.E.E.D.S. staff member.

Meals & Nutrition

We believe nutrition and healthy eating habits are fundamental skills for young children.  We play an important role in helping children learn about and enjoy a variety of nutritious foods each day.  It is our goal to provide a variety of healthful meals and snacks that are nutritious for children, developmentally appropriate and properly portioned.  Our menus are based on the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved meal patterns.  All meals are prepared fresh daily on site.
